Nick sounded great overall, I prefer it when he’s not mugging for the camera so much, but to be honest I think the TelePrompTer was probably positioned right next to the camera so he could perform and read without looking down. SA powered through somehow, but I felt bad that his first big solo vocal song sounded that rough. Galaxy unfortunately was the pretty train crash of the night though, it sounded like Chad got off beat with his click track or something, but I swear he was even playing with a swing feel pr something at one point. They started strong, I really dug how they had to “rewind” the footage before the first song to play the Transistor Intro like you had to on the actual CD. It’s always cool to hear Scotch talk shop tho, and I really liked hearing SA talking about Inner Light Spectrum. The pre/post show stuff was a little underwhelming, asking the band “do you miss the fans?” and what their favorite song is? Like let me guess- “yes and it’s too hard to pick” haha. It’s like watching your favorite sports team play, you’re hoping they win but the fun is in watching it unfold and seeing how smoothly they can recover from mistakes. I love the thrill of a live performance and that every time you start a song it has the potential to be the single greatest performance of that song you’ve ever played. Before reading, I’ll mention that this does focus on some of the mistakes and tech issues, but don’t interpret that as me not enjoying the show or nitpicking. I think they loosened up a lot as the night went on too which was fun to watch.
